The effect of live maggot (Hermetia illucens) supplementation on organoleptic quality and yolk color of duck egg

Abstract Black soldier fly (BSF) maggot is a biological agent that can solve the problem of converting organic waste into biomass for poultry feed as well fertilizers. Although live supplementation in ducks functions cheap feeds, it raises significant concerns because affect egg quality, changing taste and odor. Therefore, this study aims to determine organoleptic quality duck eggs fed with ( Hermetia illucens ) using 120 Alabio Anas platyrhynchos placed postal cages. It was conducted completely randomized design 2×2 factorial pattern investigate effect two independent factors, namely protein level at 15% 21%, concentration given 0 40 g/bird/day. The texture, flavor, odor were tested 67 moderately trained panelists, while yolk color determined an fan, then data obtained analyzed variance. results showed diet significantly affected yolk’s texture odor, but not flavor color. Furthermore, interaction occurred between on texture. Based results, high 21% plus g/bird/day maggots produced soft good fishy highest average score 8.69 compared other treatment combinations.
